Belden security expert, Eric Byres, to give keynote address at the International Cyber Security Forum for Energy and Utilities

Belden to showcase industrial cyber security and network management technology for the oil and gas, energy and utilities markets.

Abu Dhabi, May 21-24, 2012, Hilton Abu Dhabi Hotel

May 16, 2012

This year’s International Cyber Security Forum for Energy and Utilities will feature Eric Byres as one of two keynote speakers. Eric is VP and CTO of the Tofino Security product group within Belden Inc., and is recognized as one of the world's leading experts in the field of critical infrastructure cyber security. Eric will deliver his talk “Winning the Fight Against the New Wave of Security Threats” on Wednesday May 23rd at 8am.

Belden will showcase its technology at Stand 3 throughout the forum. On display will be the Eagle Tofino and Eagle 20 cyber security products, as well as the Hirschmann Industrial HiVision network management software. The benefit of both technologies is increased availability and reliability of operational systems.

Energy companies can’t afford to lose the security war against computer hackers, criminals and terrorists, remarked Eric Byres. “Since Stuxnet, the cyber attacks on energy companies have been increasing in both sophistication and impact. It is clear that today’s hackers are highly paid professional teams that target specific sectors and countries for profit or political advantage.”

“Organizations need to be every bit as professional in their defensive strategy as the attackers, or they could suffer major losses. If they want to remain safe, secure and reliable, they will have to meet these threats with the best technology and expertise available.

“This event is an outstanding opportunity for organizations to learn about the best practices in cyber security from world experts” concluded Byres.
